Preliminator 1980 captures ZZ Top during a pivotal transitional period, performing a high-energy live radio broadcast at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey, on May 30, 1980 . This concert came shortly after the release of Degüello (1979) and just before the band would explode into global superstardom with the synthesizer-laced Eliminator (1983). Broadcast on the legendary King Biscuit Flower Hour, this soundboard recording is a prized document for collectors . It showcases the band in their raw, blues-rock prime, delivering gritty performances of tracks from Degüello, Deguello, and their classic catalog .
