EntertainmentUS

Geography is the debut studio album from English musician Tom Misch, self-released on April 6, 2018 through his own label Beyond The Groove . Emerging from the vibrant South London scene alongside peers like Yussef Kamaal and Loyle Carner, Misch first gained attention through his Beat Tape series on SoundCloud before this full-length debut cemented his reputation as a singular voice in modern British music . The album was a commercial success, debuting at No. 8 on the UK Albums Chart and later certified Gold by the BPI for sales exceeding 100,000 units . It also charted across Europe, including No. 29 in the Netherlands and No. 30 in Ireland, and reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Top Jazz Albums chart .

🎵 Album Highlights

Geography is a genre-fluid record that weaves together funk, jazz, hip-hop, and soul into a warm, cohesive whole. The production is widely praised as the album's strongest asset, with lush basslines, crisp drum tracks, and occasional string sections creating a smooth, luxurious listening experience . The album features an impressive roster of collaborators: GoldLink on "Lost In Paris," De La Soul on "It Runs Through Me," Poppy Ajudha on "Disco Yes," and Loyle Carner on "Water Baby." It also includes covers of Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" and Patrick Watson's "Man Like You" . A spoken-word sample from a 2011 Roy Hargrove interview opens the album on "Before Paris" .

❤️ Why You'll Love It

The Production Is the Star - Reviewers consistently highlight the album's sonic quality. One listener noted the "crystal clear sound with luxurious, silky bass," calling it "a must have" . The drum tracks, basslines, and occasional string sections create a smooth, inviting atmosphere that rewards repeated listening .

A Genre-Blurring Journey - Geography refuses to sit in one lane. It moves fluidly between funk ("Cos I Love You"), jazz-inflected instrumentals ("Tick Tock"), laid-back hip-hop collaborations ("It Runs Through Me," "Water Baby"), and gentle ballads ("Movie," "Man Like You"). For listeners who appreciate variety within a cohesive mood, this album delivers.

Essential Modern British Soul - For anyone exploring the contemporary UK jazz and soul scene, Geography is a cornerstone release. It captures a specific moment in London's musical landscape while remaining timelessly listenable .
