Tom Grant (born 1946) is an American contemporary jazz pianist, keyboardist, vocalist, and composer, widely considered one of the early pioneers of smooth jazz and quiet storm instrumental music.

Jazz & Fusion Roots: Raised in Portland, Oregon, Grant began playing piano and drums at a young age. After moving to New York in 1970 with Native American saxophonist Jim Pepper, he toured and recorded with hard bop and fusion legends, including Woody Shaw, Joe Henderson, Charles Lloyd, and iconic drummer Tony Williams.
Solo Career & Crossover Success: Grant debuted as a leader with the 1976 post-bop release Mystified, but soon transitioned toward an R&B and pop-influenced sound. Beginning with his 1983 self-titled album and follow-ups like Take Me to Your Dream (1986) and Mango Tango (1988), his catchy, groove-heavy instrumental style consistently topped contemporary jazz radio charts.
1990s Major Releases: He remained a dominant force in the 1990s smooth jazz landscape through critically acclaimed albums on Verve and Shanachie, including In My Wildest Dreams (1992), The View from Here (1993), Instinct (1995), and Lip Service (1997).
Distinctive Sound & Legacy: Blending acoustic piano prowess with synth textures, soulful vocal touches, and breezy Pacific Northwest melodies, Grant established a loyal international audience. Later in his career, he founded his own imprint, Nu-Wrinkle Recordings, to continue issuing solo piano, vocal jazz, and trio projects.
