BECHET was one of the first important soloists in jazz, and was perhaps the first notable jazz saxophonist. Forceful delivery, well-constructed improvisations, & a distinctive, wide vibrato characterized BECHET\'s playing. His erratic temperament hampered his career, however, and he only earned wide acclaim in the late 1940’s. He was an American who lived most of his (post-WWII) life in France.
