13. Bargeboard piece. A piece of this is included in the frame. The back story of the item...John Lennon purchased Tittenhurst park estate in 1969 and left in 1971 after the Imagine album was created. The estate was then sold to Ringo Starr in 1973 who owned the estate up until 1988. The estate was then sold toSheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, former President of the United Arab Emiratesand former ruler of Abu Dhabi.
This is where I come into the story.. In 1988 Nicholson Interiors were called in to quote for the interior rip out and re-installation for the new owner. The quote was successful and Nicholson Interiors won the contract to complete the works.
After several years, it was decided that the Tudor cottage, next to the lake in the lower part of the estate was to be demolished and again we were asked to quote on re-building an exact replica. Again we were awarded the contract and building commenced around the late 1990's.
During this, My late father took a piece of the bargeboard from around the roof and some timber from the main frame of the building back to our workshops to copy for the new replica Tudor cottage. Moving along to 2020, after my father had passed away, I was asked to help clean out his garage where I found the piece of barge board and a piece of the main frame of the cottage. Knowing the significance of these items, I took them home and stored them in a safe place.. One day I was thinking about what to do with both pieces of Timber, when I had a thought to make them into a display and give some to family and friends as a gift.. They were so well received that I decided to make some more and sell for many other Beatles fans to enjoy.
To date, I have sold hundreds, which have gone to pretty much every corner of the planet. Everyone who has purchased one is absolutely over the moon with the item.We owned several other items from the estate, including the front door, which was sold at Christies sale house in London in the early 2000's. I still have the door knob from the main front door, which was featured in the Imagine music video.
My father also saved a piano, which was thrown outside after the recording studio, which John Lennon built was demolished to make way for a new wing of the house to be built. He saved this with a view to restoring it, but it was too damaged to do this.
Every other item from the house, on the order of the project manager was thrown into the swimming pool and burned. This included master recording tapes, film scripts, hand written music and some of John's original art and photography. This piece of memorabilia is mounted into a black frame, 225 x 175mm with a dispay area of 200mm wide x 250mm high.
The piece of bargeboard timber is approximately 40mm x 40mm.And the piece of main frame is approximtely 50mm x 20mm.There is a metal plate below the piece of timber 85mm wide x 55mm high reading
"This is a piece of barge board from the Tudor cottage owned by John Lennon. The Tudor cottage was situated next to the lake at
Tittenhurst Park, Ascot, where the Imagine album was recorded. The Tudor cottage was also featured in the film 'Gimme Some Truth' - The making of John Lennon's Imagine. Tittenhurst Park was also used as the backdrop for the final Beatles
photoshoot on the 22nd August 1969.There is also a scan of John's signature from a card one of my friends owns and treasures. And a serial number of 1-300.
