NEWSAGENT'S DESCRIPTION

This listing is for an original 1994 U.S. CD release of Funk Upon a Rhyme by Kokane, issued on Ruthless Records (88561-5512-2). Tracks include "From the Funk to the Back," "Slow Burnin' 22.5° Fahrenheit," and "Don't Bite the Phunk."

A voice in West Coast hip-hop, Kokane, born Jerry B. Long Jr., became known for his unconventional, high-pitched vocal delivery and ability to blend melodic funk influences with hardcore gangsta rap. It was released during the commercial peak of G-funk. Produced during an era when West Coast rap was dominated by synthesizer-driven grooves, heavy basslines, and Parliament-Funkadelic influences, the album pushes the G-funk sound into more eccentric territory.

This edition features the original Kannabis Komix cover artwork, standard jewel case packaging, and a 14-track program.
