He was a regular performer at the Cotton Club in Harlem, where he became a popular vocalist of the swing era.
His niche of mixing jazz and vaudeville won him acclaim during a career that spanned over 65 years.

Leon "Chu" Berry, guitarist Danny Barker,bassist Milt Hinton, and drummer Cozy Cole.Calloway had several hit records in the 1930s and 1940s, becoming the first African-American musician to sell
one million copies of a record.
He became known as the"Hi-de-ho" man of jazz for his most famous song, "Minnie the Moocher", originally recorded in 1931.

In 1929, Calloway relocated to New York with the band.
They opened at the Savoy Ballroom on September 20, 1929.
At the Cotton Club in Harlem, New York, the band was hired in 1931 to substitute for the Duke Ellington Orchestra while Ellington's band was on tour.
Their popularity led to apermanent position.
The band also performed twice a week for radio broadcasts on NBC.
As a result of the success of "Minnie the Moocher", Calloway became identified with its chorus, gaining the nickname
"The Hi De Ho Man".
He performed in the 1930's in a series of short films for Paramount. Calloway's groups and were featured on film more than
any other jazz orchestras of the era. This CD includes a selection of recordings made in the 1930's.
They feature Cab Calloway’s eccentric scatsinging and great jazz musicians of the period.
There areextended hot jazz solos throughout the sessions. All Selections have been digitally restored by
Vintage Recordings.
