Basic Black – Basic Black CD – 1990 Motown MOTD-6307 – Rare Original U.S. Pressing

Harder-to-find original 1990 Motown CD pressing of Basic Black’s self-titled debut album. Catalog number MOTD-6307. UPC 050109630721. This is the original-era Motown CD issue and not a later reissue.

Basic Black was an R&B/New Jack Swing vocal quartet consisting of Darryl “Dee/Dezo” Adams, Walter Scott, Lloyd Turner, and Kelvin Bradshaw. The group emerged during the height of the New Jack Swing era and released this self-titled debut album in 1990. Their music combined smooth R&B vocals with the rhythmic, dance-oriented production style that became one of the defining sounds of late-1980s and early-1990s R&B.

The album was released on Motown Records and produced by Gene Griffin for Griffin Entertainment Group. Gene Griffin and Timmy Regisford served as executive producers. The album reached the Billboard R&B album chart, and “She’s Mine” became one of the group’s best-known singles, reaching the Top 15 on Billboard’s R&B singles chart. “Nothing But A Party” also received chart attention.

Basic Black had a relatively limited recording catalog compared with many other New Jack Swing groups of the era, making original copies of this debut CD increasingly interesting to collectors of early-1990s R&B, Motown releases, and New Jack Swing music.

The CD has been tested and sounds great. The disc is exceptionally clean with no visible scuffs or scratches that I can see. It plays beautifully with no issues.

The original front and back artwork are included. The jewel case shows normal light storage wear from age. Please review all photos closely for exact cosmetic condition.
