Bar-Kays – Propositions (1982)

Classic 1982 Mercury Records stereo vinyl LP, catalog number SRM-1-4065.

A fantastic early-1980s funk album from the legendary Memphis group the Bar-Kays! Known for their powerful bass lines, energetic rhythms, synthesizer-driven grooves, and soulful vocals, the Bar-Kays helped define the sound of funk and R&B throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

Propositions delivers an outstanding combination of dance-floor funk, smooth soul, and romantic R&B, with production by Allen A. Jones and arrangements by the Bar-Kays and Jones.

Highlights include the funky “Do It (Let Me See You Shake),” the title track “Propositions,” “Tripping Out,” “Anticipation,” and the soulful “You Made a Change in My Life.”
