Up for sale is a gorgeous, highly collectible vintage mid-century modern mechanical music box table lighter manufactured by Windmill (Japan) circa 1950s/1960s. This unique tobacciana piece features a terrestrial globe that opens along the equator to reveal a polished gold-tone automatic gas lighter insert.
When wound, the internal music box plays a clear melody (typically \"Around the World in 80 Days\") and the globe slowly revolves on its base. A manual pull-out brass clutch stem plunger on the side allows you to stop and start the music at will.
DIMENSIONS:- Total Height: Approx. 6.5 inches (to the top of the meridian arm)- Base Diameter: Approx. 3.5 inches
CONDITION REPORT:- Exterior: Beautiful vintage condition. The brass globe and stem exhibit a nice, authentic aged patina with minor surface tarnish and light oxidization as pictured.- Enamel Collar: The colorful cloisonné/champlevé style etched floral design ring sits tightly on the black enamel base and is completely intact with no cracks or missing enamel.- Underside: The red lacquered bottom metal plate is remarkably clean with only minor hairline shelf scuffs. The original screws and raised button feet are fully present.- Interior: The internal gold-plated lighter insert is exceptionally clean and bright with no heavy soot stains or fuel corrosion. The mechanical \"Christmas tree\" serrated lid hinge is sturdy and holds firmly.- Mechanical/Lighter Functionality: NOT TESTED- Mechanical/Lighter Functionality: The internal mechanical music box winds up and plays its tune, but it \"jumps\" / skips intermittently during playback rather than revolving completely smoothly. The stop/start clutch stem plunger is fully intact and responsive.
