This vintage New Haven "Waring" banjo clock is a well-preserved, highly documented piece dating to 1920, complete with its original factory paper label intact on the reverse of the case.
Key Features & Highlights:
Original Factory Label: Retains its clear, authentic paper label on the back marking it as the "WARING GONG" model by The New Haven Clock Co.
Movement & Date Stamp: Stamped with the official New Haven trademark logo alongside a clear "20" date stamp directly on the rear brass movement plate.
Functionality & Testing: The timekeeping side was lightly oiled for testing and successfully ran overnight. The chime system functions when tripped manually, but the automatic trip mechanism is currently not triggering on its own and requires adjustment/repair.
Key Notice: No winding key is included with this clock. A number 8 key will fit.
Servicing Note: The movement has not received a full overhaul or professional servicing; it is being sold strictly as-is for restoration or repair.
Case & Bezel Condition: Features the original turned wood spindle finial. The brass bezel hinge is a bit loose, so the door drops slightly when opened. The wood backboard has typical age-related stress splits. Includes a small broken section of case trim in an unobtrusive spot, with the original loose wood pieces saved for simple reattachment.
Cosmetic Details: Exhibits various vintage paint specks on the exterior wood case (notably along the upper curve of the circular dial housing) that can be cleaned off by the buyer.
Original Reverse-Painted Glass: Lower door tablet featuring a scenic river, bridge, and cattle scene remains largely intact with minor flaking around the outer edges. The narrow upper throat glass panel exhibits heavy paint loss and wear as shown.
Dimensions & Shipping Details:
Overall Size: ~41" tall with finial (~38 ½" body only) x 11 ½" wide x 3 ¾" deep.
Double-Boxed Delivery: Will be packed securely in a double box for safe transit.
Finial Protection: The top wood spindle finial will be removed and wrapped separately inside the package to prevent breakage during transit. It easily reinserts into the top receiving hole upon unboxing.
