VG+/VG+. Original First Press (1984). The Time "Ice Cream Castle" is the third studio album by the Minneapolis Funk sound band The Time, released by Warner Bros. Records. Largely written, arranged, and performed behind the scenes by Prince (under the pseudonym "The Starr Company"), it stands as the group's most commercially successful album. It achieved RIAA Platinum certification for selling over one million copies. Released just one week after Prince’s blockbuster film 'Purple Rain", the album served as a companion piece to the movie, which heavily featured front-man Morris Day and the band as Prince's chief musical rivals. The 6-track LP features the massive, enduring crossover funk singles "Jungle Love" (which peaked at #20 on the Billboard Pop chart) and "The Bird" (#36 Pop), both of which were performed by the band on screen in Purple Rain. The album was recorded during a turbulent period for the band. Iconic producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were fired by Prince prior to its completion. The original iteration of the group fractured entirely upon the movie and album's release, leading to solo careers for Morris Day and guitarist Jesse Johnson. The album has remained a funk staple throughout the decades and remains a staple of "The Minneapolis Sound".TracklistSide One
