This sale is for a hopeful button that was issued in early 1964 for former Vice President Richard Nixon and New York U.S. Senator Kenneth Keating. Long story short, Richard Nixon did not run for president in 1964 while Kenneth Keating lost his U.S. Senate seat to Bobby Kennedy. While this button is not marked, it was made by Manny Ress of the "EMRESS Specialty Company" of New York City. In fact, this example came from Manny's personal collection! Starting in 1948, Manny Ress quickly became known as the king of political campaign slogans. As Nixon did not run in 1964, I highly doubt there are more than a couple examples of this button in the hobby. Notice the bright orange (see both obverse & reverse pics above) that Manny used on this button. I have several buttons from Manny's personal collection that he made with this bright orange color. This beauty is a 3 1/2-inch celluloid in pristine condition.
