Slayer Hell Awaits Vinyl LP 1985 Original Metal Blade Combat COMPLETE EX/VG+
A highly collectible, complete original 1985 US pressingof Slayer\'s landmark second studio album, Hell Awaits.
This copy features thestandard silver/black Metal Blade / Combat labels and comes entirely completewith its rare original paper inserts in very good condition (lyrics/photos sleeve, plus Metal Blade merchandise order form).
Matrix / Runout Grooves etching #1: MX-8020 (see photo #3). This is the official matrix number assigned by Combat Records for Hell Awaits. This exact string confirms that this vinyl belongs to the original master catalog plates cut right before the album\'s April 1985 release.
Matrix / Runout Grooves etching #2: \"A -\" (see photo #4).This symbol in the runout groove points to an exact, historically significant manufacturing source: this copy was pressed at Hub-Servall Record Mfg. Corp. in Cranbury, New Jersey, and the lacquer was mastered by Eddy Schreyer at Capitol Mastering. Hub-Servall was the go-to east coast pressing plant for Combat Records and Metal Blade in 1985, known for producing heavy, high-quality vinyl pucks.
The audio for this pressing was mastered by the legendary Eddy Schreyer at Capitol Records. He was the audio engineer responsible for giving this specific 1985 pressing its raw, aggressive, and highly separation-heavy thrash metal sound profile.Hub-Servall pressings are widely considered to have the most punchy low-end bass response compared to other regional pressings of that era.Slayer’s second studio album, Hell Awaits (released on April 8, 1985, through Metal Blade Records), is a cornerstone of extreme metal that cemented the band\'s signature dark, progressive, and aggressive sound.Moving past the rawer approach of their 1983 debut, Show No Mercy, Hell Awaits featured longer, more complex song structures, darker atmospheres, and intricate guitar work by Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman. The title track opens with a famous backward-masked intro loop repeating the phrase \"join us,\" setting a terrifying, occult-drenched tone that heavily influenced death and black metal.Tracks like \"At Dawn They Sleep\" and \"Necrophiliac\" became live staples and directly laid the structural and sonic groundwork for their masterpiece Reign in Blood (1986).Financed properly by Metal Blade producer Brian Slagel (unlike the self-funded debut) and engineered by Ron Fair, it gave Slayer a heavier, denser production footprint that raised the bar for thrash metal in 1985.
