Schubert – “Unfinished” Symphony No. 8 & Symphony No. 5 – Reiner / Chicago Symphony – RCA Living Stereo 7½ IPS Reel

One of the great RCA Living Stereo combinations: Fritz Reiner conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 “Unfinished” and Symphony No. 5.

Original RCA Victor Living Stereo FTC-2090, 7½ IPS, 4-track stereo prerecorded reel. Produced by Richard Mohr and engineered by Lewis Layton, two names closely associated with the classic RCA sound.

Play tested and sounds very good. Big, spacious orchestral presentation with excellent dynamics and that wonderful Reiner/Chicago precision.

The original RCA reel and red Living Stereo label present nicely. Original box is quite worn, with staining, edge wear, paper loss and deterioration, particularly along the spine and edges. Please see all photos. The important part, the tape itself, plays very well.

A very enjoyable and collectible early RCA Living Stereo reel, and a great way to hear this famous Reiner/Chicago recording.
