This piece depicts a family of quail rendered in the traditional Mimbres pottery style — bold black silhouettes with rust-orange accents on a hand-dyed blue and gold background, surrounded by a hand-carved scalloped border. The gourd features a long leather-wrapped handle with a leather tie, and the base is finished with natural horsehair tassels.

Robert Rivera is celebrated for transforming gourds into fine art objects inspired by Anasazi, Hohokam, and Mimbres Native American designs.
