A classic mid-90s release in the shoegazer genre
Their 2nd album (1996)
“this tucson duo has that deep, crisp, loud, soft, fuzzy, simple, complex, plethoric, sound.” - BLUR MAGAZINE
A beautiful wrestling of noise… a demanding combination of isabelle’s ethereal vocals and alex’s tendency to blend saturated overloaded distortion from his 12-string guitar with aching polyrhythmic patterns. the result is “ethereal noise”: chaotic and innovative… gritty, choppy, stunning and beautiful. a sound that captures the sensation of falling, floating on a wave of sounds bleeding into one another like staining watercolors.
Chicago Reader July 2021:“Other shoegaze bands—Ride, Slowdive, Sigur Rós—took MBV’s innovations and ran with them, even soared with them. But Lovesliescrushing have always seemed to operate in a parallel universe, making dense, beatless sheets of sound so disorienting you can’t see your shoes—the band’s music is turned inward so completely that the only thing you can gaze at is the inside of your own skull.”
