This Mary Gates Dewey M3 Cat in excellent condition. It has no chips or cracks even with all of the 3 dimensional sculpted elements to the piece. Great typical black and white color contrast of hers. What cat lover wouldn't want her licking her paw and looking contented in the eyes. This piece is shown as signed and all I could do was confirm against other photo'd sold pieces. These cats are handmade of clay and the colors and patterns are produced by an ancient method of firing called sawdust or "pit" firing. Once the piece has been bisque fired in a kiln, it is buried in sawdust and the sawdust is burned. The smoke from the sawdust produces the permanent colors in the clay. Sizes vary slightly and color patterns are random. I take plenty of photos as these are the best representation of the items.
