Chelsea 3/4 size banjo wall clock, spring powered and striking hours, serial number 536526 on movement dates clock to ca. 1948 and with "CHELSEA CLOCK CO." and "BOSTON U.S.A" on rear of movement plate.Clockhas original cream finished enameled face (6" dia.) with matching screws securing movement in maple-finished mahogany wood case, Arabicnumerals inside chapter ring with two winding arbors fitted with polished steel grommets beneath center arbor with "Chelsea" inscribed below complete with graceful original black steelhands. Double spring driven 8 daymovement that also strikes the hour sounding on a beautiful Chelsea gong secured to rear of case with adjustment access plate (1.75" dia) fitted on rear of wooden case.
Mahogany cased clock (approx. 32.5" L x 8.125" W x 3.5" H) with maple throat and tablet frames fitted with original rear-painted glass panels depicting a delicate floral design finished with gilt on the throat with a scene of a building on the tablet signed"Boston State House" below and all inside an oval surrounded by matching crèmebackground and gilt floral design. Solid cast brass eaglefinal(3" H), polished highlights, surmounts a wooden plinth approximately 1" H by 1" W x 1.25" deep. Carved fluted bracket base with seven wooden balls in matching finish with acorn final below and original thick brass side arms. Case marked with "17" and matching "17" on inside of throat panel. Original heavy cast solid brass bezel with original clear glass lens without marks and small brass hold-downs also appear original to clock complete with five-knuckle hinge securing bezel to case. Original brass bezel and tablet panel catches in place and functional. Case in original condition throughout with little indication of its 72 year age - a well cared for timepiece.
