Captured is the first live album by the American rock band Journey. It was released on January 30, 1981, on the Columbia Records label. The album reached No. 9 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and went on to sell two million copies.
This album was recorded during the band\'s Departure Tour in 1980. Tracks 1–4 were taken from a performance recorded at The Forum in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on August 8, 1980. Tracks 5 and 6 were from the performance at the end of the tour in Koseinenkin Hall, Shinjyuku, Tokyo, Japan, on October 13, 1980, and tracks 7–16 came from two shows at Cobo Arena in Detroit, Michigan, on August 4 and 5, 1980. The song \"Dixie Highway\" had not previously been (nor was it subsequently) recorded on any Journey studio album. Closing the album is the lone studio track, \"The Party\'s Over (Hopelessly in Love)\", which was released as a single.
In the liner notes, the album is dedicated to AC/DC lead singer Bon Scott, who died in February 1980. Scott is referred to as \"a friend from the highway,\" as AC/DC had supported Journey the previous year on their \"If You Want Blood\" tour.
This was the last Journey album for keyboard player and founder Gregg Rolie.
Record World called the single \"The Party\'s Over (Hopelessly in Love)\" a \"shining testimony to the band\'s commanding stage presence.\"

This was the band\'s last album to feature bassist Ross Valory until 1996\'s Trial by Fire.
The album reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and would garner four top 40 singles: \"After the Fall\" (No. 23), \"Send Her My Love\" (No. 23), \"Faithfully\" (No. 12), and \"Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)\" (No. 8), and a rock radio hit in \"Chain Reaction\". The album would later achieve the RIAA certification of six times platinum. In 2008, Classic Rock critic Paul Elliott declared \"Faithfully\" to be \"the greatest power ballad of all time\".
The album had been sequenced and prepped for pressing when, in a last-minute conference with Journey\'s A&R man Michael Dillbeck, two songs were pulled from the original lineup, \"Ask the Lonely\" and \"Only the Young\". These two tracks were replaced with \"Back Talk\" and \"Troubled Child\". \"Ask the Lonely\" was utilized in the soundtrack for the film Two of a Kind. \"Only the Young\" would find its way into the Top Ten two years later, as part of the soundtrack of the movie Vision Quest.
Frontiers was the band\'s highest-charting album in the United Kingdom, reaching No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart in 1983.
Track listingSide oneNo.TitleWriter(s)Length1.\"Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)\"The Essential Journey is a compilation of songs from the rock band Journey. Released on October 16, 2001, it is part of Sony BMG\'s \"Essential\" series of compilation albums. The album includes most of Journey\'s major and minor hits that have charted on Billboard Hot 100. It covers material recorded while Steve Perry was lead singer of the band, from 1978\'s Infinity to 1996\'s Trial by Fire, neglecting Journey albums recorded before and after his membership. The first disc is Greatest Hits with some minor changes: tracks are in a slightly different order, \"After the Fall\" replaces \"Be Good to Yourself\" (which is on the second disc instead), and \"When You Love a Woman\" is included (this song was recorded after the release of the original edition of Greatest Hits, but was added to the 2006 CD edition).
The Essential Journey was certified as Platinum in the United States on February 2, 2005, and Double Platinum in the United States on March 3, 2016. It had sold 1,156,000 copies in the US as of August 2013.
