Walt Disney's Davy Crockett 2-Tone Marching Tom-Tom — Childhood Interests, Toy #720 — c. 1955

An original 1950s Disney-licensed Davy Crockett tom-tom drum from the height of the Crockett craze, complete with both mallets and its original box base. These were played hard by kids and thrown out by parents; finding one this bright, this complete, and with any of its packaging is uncommon.

Dating

The box carries the safety statement "Conforms to American Standard Z66.1-1955," which places manufacture at 1955 or later. Disney's Davy Crockett serial ran on ABC from December 1954 through December 1955, the licensed-merchandise boom peaked in 1955, and Chief Red Stick appears in the earliest episodes. Taken together, c. 1955–56.

Condition — Please Read

Displays very well overall. The lithography is bright with strong reds and blues, both heads are taut, and all of the red lacing is present and intact. Please note:

DRUM HEAD DAMAGE: One of the two drum heads has two holes — one small hole, plus a separate very fine pinhole. The other drum head is clean and undamaged. Both holes are shown in the photos.
The drum skin is broken at one point near a post where the skin originally stretched. A photo is included to show this damage clearly.
The box is the bottom tray only — the lid, if one existed, is not present. The tray retains its full printed graphics on all four sides, including the Childhood Interests address, Toy #720, the drummer-boy artwork, and the hand-grip instructions.
General light age wear, handling marks and soiling to the heads, consistent with a seventy-year-old played-with toy.
Sold as-is as a vintage collectible. Please review every photo closely — they are of the actual item and form part of this condition description.

Why This One

1955 Davy Crockett merchandise is one of the most collected corners of vintage Disneyana, and the tom-tom is among the harder pieces to find complete. Most surviving examples turn up missing a mallet, missing the hand-grip, missing the cord, or with no packaging at all. This one has all of it, and the graphics are exceptional.
