Crazy By: Dave Matthews Band Transcribed by: Matt Belmont
this is based mainly on the 06/03/96 version of the song, played by a hammered guy by the name of Dave Matthews... i also listened to the 02/06/97 version to compare and for the words, which aren't perfect either...he got better at playing it in the meantime...and changed it subtly. please listen to it for the rhythm, the exact timings would be impossible to tab. and they aren't always the same, just go with what feels appropriate...Dave plays it almost gently the first time, the 2/6/97 show is really more expressive i don't know the exact name of all the chords...sorry. i'll call some of them a ninth chord of some variety, but i think it's actually some sort of "sus4 add9" chord...
Part I C#9 G#9 B A E---4---------7----5-------------------------------- B---4----4----7----5-------------------------------- G---8----4----7----5-------------------------------- D---6----8----9----7-------------------------------- A---4----6----9----7-------------------------------- E---x----4----7----5--------------------------------
mute the C#9 with the end of your first finger, and yes, play the stretch with your pinkie. all of the barre chords use muting some where, concentrate on the bottom three notes of the chord.
*at the begining of the song, the first chord is played twice, also after the different transitions.
Part IA: C#9 G#9 B A
E-----------------------777777-----555555------------ B-----------------------777777-----555555------------ G---888888--------------777777-----555555------------ D---666666----888888----999999-----777777------------ A-4-444444----666666----999999-----777777------------ E-----------4-444444--7-777777--5--555555------------
IB: C#9 G#9 B A
E----------7--------5------------------ B----------7-----7*-5------------------ G---888----7(8?)----5(6)?-------------- D---666--8/9--------7------------------ A-4------6/9--------7------------------ E------4--/7--------5------------------
*sometimes he adds this note on the upswing to play the A
Part II: B Bb A(don't know exactly how many times he plays the A, somewhere in there he lets the low E free...
E--777777--66--555555------- B--777777--66--555555------- G--777777--66--555555------- D--999999--88--777777------- A--999999--88--777777------- E--777777--66--555000-------
Part III and outro: ??? adds just a couple chords i don't have the patience to figure out right now...
Part IV: C#9 G# F#9 (A G#9)
E--------------------------------- B--------------------------------- G---88888888---------------------- D---66666666-66666666-66666666---- repeat (on the third time, A---44444444-66666666-44444444---- play an A and G#9) E------------44444444-22222222----
I+ crazy as i may make my way through this world
I it's for no one but for me to share one direction i turn in
I cause i am the captain of this ship eyes, eyelids and kissing lips
I (the) same as it was and should be when you will, you could
II oh, row me back again, you could row me away, you can row home us back again
IB same respect for them that turn in chain
I+ oh don't you see the strange way a girl dances away a day,
I oh, even ridicule display won't stop her feet from moving
I because i am the captain of this ship eyes, eyelids, and kissing lips
I just the same as it was, may...
III baby, strange i live a lie(?) i'm coming back again IB
I whoa, turn, baby, the lights from your sail
I and turn the spotlight down,or turn it on yourself
I because you are the captain of this ship, eyes, eyelids, and kissing lips
I just the same as for all i bring and reigning to be
IV why should i be hypnotized by someone else's lie IV why should i oh take time and pride in what someone else believe IVb oh, tell me the warnin', won't you hold on and maybe you, you can
II row me backside on the wind, you can II row me away, you do II more than i've ever seen before, now you give
Ib a subterrain feel, cold again
outro (same as Part III) the same as it was, and make(?) me believe my head, my own...
