The Kids Are Alright BASS By The Who Written by Pete Townshend
Transcribed By HANIF PAYANDEH (thegreenlantern@comic.com)
Okay WHOever here's how it goes for the BASS guitar.
I don't know if it's possible, but I think I've managed to Oversimplify this thing. So excuse me for sounding like I'm teaching kindergarteners.
1. The best way to learn the learn where the notes lie in the song is to strum in one continuous rhythm. For the sake of easiness, I have transcribed this so that you would be picking the string LIKE A MACHINE at exactly 240 beats per minute. (J.E. -obviously- doesn't play every note here, he lets certain notes ring out a while instead of picking it a number of times. Listen to it a few times will help tremendously.) 2. Each measure is about one second. (so [INTRO], [RIFF 1], and [RIFF 2] are 8 seconds each.) 3. Each "--" is one quarter note.
HERE'S THE SONG:
[INTRO] I don't mind, other guys dancing with my girl. [RIFF 2] That's fine, I know them all pretty well. [CHORUS] And I know sometimes I must get out in the light. Better leave her behind, Where the kids are alright. The kids are alright. [RIFF 1] Sometimes, I feel I gotta get away. [RIFF 2] Bells chime, I know I gotta get away. [CHORUS] And I know sometimes I must get out in the light. Better leave her behind, Where the kids are alright The kids are alright. [BRIDGE 1] I know if I go things would be a lot better for her. I had things planned but her folks wouldn't let her. [RIFF 1] I don't mind, other guys dancing with my girl. [RIFF 2] That's fine, I know them all pretty well. [CHORUS] And I know sometimes I must get out in the light. Better leave her behind, Where the kids are alright The kids are alright. [BRIDGE 2] [RIFF 1] Sometimes, I feel I gotta get away. [RIFF 2] Bells chime, I know I gotta get away. [CHORUS] And I know sometimes I must get out in the light. Better leave her behind, Where the kids are alright. The kids are alright. The kids are alright. The kids are alright.
