Eyes of Sand by Tonic on the Scream 2 Soundtrack tabbed by Jeff Lee (immutablewit@hotmail.com)
This song kicks some serious ass. It's got the catchiest damn riffage in the world. Only wish it got more widely distributed.
This tab sounds almost like the real thing, but I can't be sure.
My notation is a little dirty but this should help. Apologies ahead of time.
Tuning: 1/2 step below concert tuning (go figure...why do you guys do this?): Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb
Intro and Chorus First Guitar: G gradual union bend *pickup note for next cycle E|----|-------------------3-3-3-3-3---3---3------3---------------------| B|----|-------------------6-6-6-6-6b7-6b7-6b7----6b8-------------------| G|----|.----------------0---------------------------------------------.| D|----|.----------------0---------------------------------------------.| A|----|----1-------1h2-------------------------------------------------| E|--3-|--3------3------------------------------------------------------| ^play only first time(pickup note) Second Guitar: G *pickup note E|----|----------------------------------------------------------------| B|----|----------------------------------------------------------------| G|----|.--------------------------------------------------------------.| D|--5-|.------------------3-3-2-2----------------5--------------------.| A|--5-|---------------------------5---5----------5---------------------| E|--3-|--3-3h6--3--3h6--3-----------------(5)b6--3---------------------| ^chorus only (in intro, second guitar comes in after first guitar)
There's a revision for this riff at the end. It's important to put a heavy blues vamp on everything...throw in some vibratos and make those bends as raunchy as possible.
During the outro they start to jam around and do lots of bluesy sounding bends on the 5th fret on the E string.
This is all heavily syncopated so you'll have to forgive my clumsy rhythm marking.
The bass follows the root note of the chords...the "tonic" if you will.
Damn, I'm clever.
Verse First Guitar: Gmaj Csus2 Gmaj E|-----------------------3---------------------------------------------| B|--------3------3--3----3r----------------0--3--1--------0--3--2------| G|------0--------0--0----5a------------2/4-------2----2/4-------1------| D|--4/5-----4/5--5--5----5k--------------------------------------------| A|-----------------------3e--------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------| B|------0--3--1--------------------------------------------------------| G|--2/4-------2--------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
Second Guitar: Follows the first guitar right through to the Csus2, and the plays palm- muted G's. Listen with headphones to get the precise version. They sorta double and quadruple strum some parts.
Bridge First Guitar: Gmaj or Cmaj Bb5 (last 2 times) G E|-------------------------|-------------------------------------------| B|-------------------------|---------------0-----------------0---------| G|--4p2p0-0--------0-------|-3p2p0-0-----5-----3p2p0-0-----5-----------| D|----------4/5--5---------|---------4/5---------------4/5-------------| A|-------------------------|-------------------------------------------| E|--------------------3----|-----------------3-----------------3-------|
Second Guitar: tacit(maybe muted chords) Bb5 Gmaj E|-------------------------|-1-----------------1---------------3-------| B|-------------------------|-1-----------------1---------------3-------| G|-------------------------|-3-----------------3---------------4-------| D|-------------------------|-3-----------------3---------------5-------| A|-------------------------|-1-----------------1---------------5-------| E|-------------------------|-----------------------------------3-------|
The bass in this song just follows the root notes of the chords (besides the intro and chorus). Rhythmically I think it's just consistent eigth notes.
Revision of main riff:
One (better-sounding)alternative to the union bending in the chorus/intro is:
E|--5--5b6---7---------------------------------------------------------| B|--6--6b7---8---------------------------------------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
It sounds like they bend the whole thing (both strings). It's rather difficult to get both strings to sound the right pitch.
