One of my favorite albums ever!

I had never heard "Odessey and Oracle" before. Now I am addicted to it. This album is right up there with "Pet Sounds" and "Sgt Pepper's." The songs are superb, and the production is magical. The Zombies constructed an opus...and then they broke up?!

  • The fragile genius of the Zombies at their finest.

One of the greatest albums of the 60s. Odessey and Oracle shows a great band at the end of their career (the Zombies had pretty much packed it in by the time the album was recorded), and the lack of pressure shows with a magnificent album which represents the apex of fragile, Baroque pop music. Of course, it also has the hit "Time of the Season", one of the best songs ever. So there. This edition is especially valuable for the inclusion of both the mono and stereo versions of the album. The zombies couldn't afford to spent much time on the stereo mix (but it's still stellar, thanks to Geoff Emerick at the helm (George Martin's engineer on all Beatles albums after Rubber Soul, also producer of Badfinger's "Straight Up" and Paul McCartney's ...

  • The U.K.'s version of Pet Sounds

Something defying explanation happened in the realm of popular music in and around the 60's-defining "Summer of Love." Radio waves carried an endless stream of great new songs; each better than the last; including the radio hit from this album, "Time of the Season." So many great recordings were made during that notable period that some truly remarkable achievements went almost unnoticed. Recorded at Abbey Road studios and released in 1968, the Zombies Odessey & Oracle is one of those records that got pushed aside in the mega-wake of a handful of other, market dominating masterworks. Fortunately, Odessey and Oracle (misspelled on the original cover art) has been remastered, re-released, and rediscovered. Now widely regarded as on a par with such exemplary ...

  • Odessey and Oracle: 30th Anniversary Edition

This is simply a must have CD for the true music fan. I came very late to the Zombies (late 30's). I grew up loving 60's music, holding Sgt. Pepper and Pet Sounds among the greatest of records of all time. I was missing this album. It belongs with the previously mentioned titles. It's a lovely work of pop music, a great British feel to it, it captures the high point of the day. The production is great, the performance is great, the songwriting is amazing. Simply put, you can't go wrong with Odessey and Oracle in your collection. Everyone I know who hears this (I'm a musician, and believe it or not, about half the musicians I know haven't actually heard this yet) falls in love with it and holds it in the same regards. As for the 30th Anniversary ...

  • Zombies - 'Odessey And Oracle' (Big Beat) 4 1/2 stars

A superbly / nice CD reissue of the Zombies second 'actual' album (is it?). Total of 27 tracks - so since you get the lp's original twleve cuts, with this 30th Anniversary Edition, you also get seventeen (you read that correct) 17 added bonus cuts. That's a LOT of a single-disc release. Loads of fabulous and most memorable tunes here to enlighten your evening like the three versions of "Care Of Cell 44", "Time Of The Season" (both in stereo and mono), the beautifully-done melodic "A Rose For Emily" (two versions), "I Want Her, She Wants Me", the catchy "Maybe After She's Gone" and a song that I've never heard before but was quite impressed with - "Butcher's Tale". Timeless British Invasion that ...
