    Stay Awake: Various Artists Interpretations Of Music CD

    If you are a fan of Disney movies, you will enjoy the varitey of all the different songs from the classics . But, unlike the music in the movies, this cd version adapts each of the songs to the style of what each recording star sing the song usually sings. (For example: "I Wanna Be Like You" from The Jungle Book actually actually has a rockin' sort of "cantina" sound in Los Lobos' arrangement, and "Baby Mine" from Dumbo has a definite bluesy turn to it in Bonnie Raitt and Was (Was Not)'s arrangement--oh that WONDERFUL bass line!). I usually end up listening to the actual movie soundtracks when I need my Disney fix (I'm hard core that way), but it's pretty grand to have one cd with such recording GREATS on it like Ken Nordine (!), Yma Sumac, Ringo Starr, The Replacements, Tom Waits, and ...

    More of a novelty item

    Bought it for the Bonnie Raitt track, but really most of it is more of a novelty item. Best to find a site to listen to at least snippets before buying. The CD itself though was in very good shape as advertised.

    Stay Awake . . .

    Strangely strung together. About half the cover music is exceptional, the rest bizarre. Furthermore most tracks contain multiple pieces with no separate track numbers making it impossible to scroll to a favorite. Your own editing software could help. With this said, this album contains a few stunners that are mixed well and have moved to my rotation.

    This is another great compilation by Hal Willner.

    This is a compilation of Disney music re-done by various artists, often in ways that make you hear the music in new ways. It's a lot of fun. My favourite piece is probably Aaron Neville singing the "Mickey Mouse Song"; he makes it sound like an anthem, rather than the corny ending to the "Mickey Mouse Club" that I grew up with on TV. Other great pieces include Betty Carter singing "I'm Wishing" and Tom Waits singing "Heigh Ho (The Dwarfs' Marching Song)".

    I had this on cassette but had to get rid of all my cassettes prior to a move 2 years ago. I am soooo happy to now have it on CD!
