Celebrate Christmas with yesteryear\'s songs played by this little vintage Swiss music box. The lid features a decoupage image of three children enjoying a cart ride pulled by two terrier dogs. The original tune sheet inside lists song Come Along Children followed by Holy Night. The mechanism is pinned on a single-position cylinder with a 28 note comb and sliding stop. It works well and has an overall pleasant tone, completing both tunes on three winds. The Thorens hallmark is present on the underside along with a faintly inked MADE IN SWITZERLAND and a faded serial number in pencil. There is also a manufacturing number 126417 stamped on the mechanism bed.
Condition: decoupage image is faded and discolored with moisture stains, material loss having occurred at edges. Mechanism elements made of steel exhibit light rust. Exterior of box has scratches, dings and dents in finish with finish loss on rear seam near foot. Interior is in excellent shape with a sturdy hinge and glass held in place by fitted mouldings. Some glue bleed-through and oxidation has occurred on tune sheet and Thorens sticker on underside. The winding key is possibly a replacement but fits well. The comb has its original feathers which are worn and could use replacement; there is some perceptible hiss on repeated notes. The mechanism and stop both work well.
Disclosures: the mechanism was removed from the box for inspection and a sparing lubrication was performed on pivot points using watchmaker\'s tools and appropriate lubricant. Several pins set for Holy Night on the fourth tooth from the left were adjusted to correct a \"plink\" note. Glass was cleaned and re-inserted. A small amount of Butcher\'s Wax was applied behind and around the stop slide to reduce friction.
