Banjo clock, type of clock, so named because its upper portion is shaped like an inverted banjo. The clock was patented by Simon Willard of Massachusetts in 1802. It has a circular dial with a narrow metal frame and a bezel for the glass, which is usually dome-shaped, as is this example.

Fine back painted glass detail.
40" in length. Lower rectangular box is 10" wide.
Purchase from estate sale in 1990.  Finial doesn't seem to match other similar antique items found online but fits the era.  All wood components seem to be in very good condition.  Again, please use pictures to assess.
