OSCARPETERSON TRIO PLAYS MY FAIR LADY, PORGY & BESS AND FIORELLO (3 LPS ON 2CDS)
Personnel:
OscarPeterson (p), Ray Brown (b), Gene Gammage, Ed Thigpen (d)
Reference: FSRCD 637_2
This set isa thoroughly engaging collection of performances from three albums the OscarPeterson Trio devoted to three well-known Broadway shows.
My Fair Ladywas recorded in 1958, in the interval between the departure of guitarist HerbEllis and the arrival of drummer Ed Thigpen. Occupying the drum chair for thisdate is Gene Gammage, who fits in seamlessly with the peerless Ray Brown.
Thigpencomes in for the remaining albums, Porgy and Bess (1959) and Fiorello! (1960)and locks into place one of the greatest of all the Peterson trios. Petersonhimselfwho could sometimes be overwhelmingplays with marked restraint all theway, while Brown and Thigpen provide stirring, swinging backing in what is anunfailingly stimulating combination.
