Conrad Gozzo (1922-1964), was a superb lead trumpet of rareforce and vigor. On this album, his only one as leader, The Goz, as he wasoften called, was given more than adequate representation and freedom for allhis talents, appearing in front of sixteen piece band, a group with strings,and a small band. Featured throughout, he plays with engrossing strength andfire, and his full sound epitomises the trumpet generation of the Forties. Thebig band sides as well as the others are reflective of the idiom in which thislegendary trumpeter had his roots.
