Grosse Boîte ré-édite Brun, que l’ancien Révérend (il est plutôt question de son ancien nom de scène que d’un obscur passé religieux) avait fait paraître en mai dernier de façon indépendante. Dans les mots de Bernard, on pourrait qualifier l’album de « gospel urbain nappé d’une sauce country-blues à l’ancienne » ou, dans nos mots à nous, « ce qu’on a entendu de plus touchant depuis longtemps. » L’auteur-compositeur-interprète nous présente un portrait noir (ou brun?) de l’Est de Montréal, en y opposant des personnages hauts en couleur. Mais Brun livre aussi des moments d’introspection, comme sur « Acapulco » ou « La question à 100 piasses », cette dernière ayant d’ailleurs été récompensée du prix Echo de la SOCAN en octobre 2009. Et tant qu’à être dans la catégorie des prix, il est important de mentionner que Bernard avait « passer la gratte » comme disait Bande à part, Festival de la chanson de Petite-Vallée de 2009, en remportant 6 des 10 prix offerts. Le brun, c’est beau.
