Andres Segovia was the willful child who fell in love with the classical guitar and refused to become the lawyer his father wished. He took his talent and elevated the Spanish guitar to the concert stage. He traveled to international acclaim and even arrived in Indianapolis when I was in high school. He was old and affable when I asked for his autograph after an exquisite performance at Clowes Hall on the Butler Campus in Indianapolis,Indiana March 15, 1966. His program consisted of Bach, Hayden and Handel among other composers. Each piece in the repertoire was played with perfection by impossibly thick fingers.
