A series of great Opera records from early 1903 Russian G&Ts to 1940 German War time pressings

World War I, and the ensuing Treaty of Trianon resulted in a major drawback in the history of Hungarian sound recording. Disc production could only resume in 1925, but already in the next year – as a result of the invention of microphones – electronic recording technique was put into practice. International companies and their Hungarian subsidiaries still presided over disc recording in Hungary during the interwar period. The only Hungarian recording firm was Radiola. Among its recordings, one can find performances of Ede Zathurecky, Kálmán Pataky, and several other famous Hungarian performers.

Káláman Pataky (Tenor)

Born: November 14, 1896 - Alsolendam Hungary
Died: March 3, 1964 - Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA

The Hungarian tenor, Káláman Pataky (or Koloman von Pataky), studied in Budapest.

In 1922 Káláman Pataky made his operatic debut as the Duke of Mantua at the Budapest Opera, where he subsequently appeared regularly. From 1926 he also sang at the Vienna State Opera. He made guest appearances at the Paris Opera (1928), the Glyndebourne Festival (1936), the Salzburg Festival (1936), and at Milan\'s La Scala. He also appeared frequently at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. After the Anschluss in Austria in 1938, he sang mainly in Hungary. After World War .II, he settled in the USA.

Káláman Pataky was admIred for his Mozart roles, particularly his Belmonte, Ottavio, and Tamino. He was a fine concert artist. R. Strauss dedicated several of his Lieder to him.

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
\"EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET\" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
\"VERY QUIET\" is anabove averagequiet record for a given pressing.
\"Quiet\" is a record that is a great example with some noise.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.
