Michigan MRC-11 radio amplifier made in 1924 by Michigan Radio Corporation in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
This is the seldom seen two-tube amplifier that matches the Michigan MRC-10 one-tube radio which was advertised at that same time in 1924. It is in as-found untested condition and appears to be complete except the 2 tubes are missing. The wood cabinet is solid and has the original finish complete with scratches and other blemishes accumulated over the past 100 years.
The slanted front panel appears to be aluminum with the original black paint and white lettering on it. The brass ID tag says 'MICHIGAN RADIO CORPORATION', 'GRAND RAPIDS MICHIGAN'. There are two connectors on the left side of the panel that would connect to the headphone output connectors on an Michigan MRC-10 radio, or other brand radio (neither included). A loud speaker (not included) would connect to the two connectors on the right side of the panel. The top lever selects if you want the speaker connectors switched to either 1 or 2 stages of amplification. The other two levers control the filament voltage to the 1st stage tube and to the 2nd stage tube. Looking inside, the original board that separates the radio circuitry from the battery storage area is still there, along with a metal divider to separate batteries from each other. The original tube sockets are there but the rubber shock mounts are hard and broken on one and cracked on the other one. The two audio transformers test good with my ohm meter. The wiring appears complete and in OK condition except the battery wires are frayed. This would be a good and worthwhile restoration project!Please look carefully at the photographs as they are part of the description.The unit measures about 13-1/4" wide x 8" tall x 9-7/8" deep.
