Paul Gerber (born April 8, 1889 in Saint-Imier, † July 1, 1941 in Bern) was a Swiss yodeler and folk singer.

Paul Gerber attended elementary school in his birthplace of St. Imier in the Swiss canton of Bern, learned to be an electrical engineer and later was a sergeant in the Zurich city police. Together with his wife [1] he formed a celebrated yodel duet, which \"with naive grace\" knew how to convey the \"primordial nature\" of this alpine folk art [2] and could also be heard on gramophone records from 1909 onwards.

As a soloist and with his wife in a duet, he recorded for gramophone / zonophone, and later also for Odeon, Homocord, Artiphon and Vox, in Switzerland for the «Phonoplattenwerke Zürich» (Fabrique de Disques Phonographiques). [3] Piano and zither as well as entire orchestras were used for accompaniment.

Gerber\'s art was also available in the USA on his \"OkeH\" Odeon label through the General Phonograph Co. New York of German-American record manager Otto Heinemann (1877–1965). [4] Their labels contained the note recorded in Europe or recorded in Germany or recorded in Switzerland and were sometimes in Gothic script to confirm their authenticity.

Gerber sang well-known Swiss folk tunes such as Mi Vater isch en Appezeller and Vo Luzern uf Wäggis zue and traditional yodels such as Durlhofer, Rigi Jodel or Unterwaldner Jodel. His best-known piece was the cuckoo song, which he recorded several times in the course of his career, acoustically with a funnel and electrically with a microphone. [5] It became world famous through him.

In his record review in the cultural magazine Der Cross section [6], critic Hans Reimann noted: “Paul Gerber and partner. Vox No. 4223 - Why do you only yodel on the mountain pastures? This larynx training should become a compulsory subject in the new school curriculum ... »

Paul Gerber died in Bern at the age of 61.

Leipzig
Germany
1895 - 1933

Kalliope was beside Grammophon the oldest record label in Germany. At the beginning there was a connection to the Anker Werke in Leipzig, later with Mentzenhauer & Schmidt in Berlin. The first records were made long before WWI. In the year 1895 Wacker & Bock was been renamed in Kalliope Fabrik mechanischer Musikwerke, Espenhain, Wacker & Bock.

1910 buys the company Saxon Holzwarenfabrik - Max Böhme AG in Dippoldiswalde in the Ore Mountains and moves its headquarters there, and sold the property in Leipzig in 1911 for 500 000 marks. 1911 a subsidiary has been established in Austria - Hungary. 1914 Kalliope assumes the Anker-Phonogramm-Gesellschaft, Berlin. At the same year the bankruptcy proceedings against the Kalliope Musik Werke AG is opened. The company is in liquidation continued until 1917 , and expires 1919.

In 1930 the unbreakable disk MELOCORD was launched

In addition to many made matrices, Kalliope also pressed for American Paramount , Broadway and Banner/Regal. These pressings are Kalliope American Record .

In Germany, the production was discontinued in 1933.

A Quick NOTE ON GRADING AND SHIPPING:

As you can see from my response, I try hard to earn your POSITIVE response and FIVE STAR RATINGS.

If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING.

Quick noteon grading:

The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don\'t give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
\"EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET\" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
\"VERY QUIET\" is anabove averagequiet record for a given pressing.
\"Quiet\" is a record that is a great example with some noise.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.
