Tim Armstrong - Vocals/Guitar Matt Freeman - Bass Brett Reed - Drums Lars Fredericksen - Vocals/Guitar Rancid was formed in 1991 in San Francisco by Tim Armstrong
(Vocals/Guitar) and Matt Freeman (Bass). Tim Armstrong suffered from
major alcohol problems which he was working to overcome. Matt a life
long friend suggested that the duo start a band, which was in part to
help his friend with recovery. The two joined and a musical union was
formed. Brett Reed, a roommate of Armstrong, joined the band as
drummer a short while later. Rancid started performing live all around the bay area. In 1992
they released a debut EP under lookout records. The band didn't go
unnoticed, in 1993 they signed on with Epitaph beginning the liftoff
of their music career. Their self titled full length album showcased
their flavor for ska and punk sounds. Around this time Lars
Fredericksen signed on as the second vocalist/guitarist for the
group. One after another Rancid released albums, all reaching the
alternative and mainstream markets. Lets go, ...And Out Came the
Wolves, and Life Wont Wait each added more and more fans for the
group. The bands ... And out Came the Wolves reached Platinum in 1995
with its ska heavy sound. In 2000 Rancid released and impressive
twenty-two tracked self titled album. To this day Rancid remains a
historical pioneer in the punk music movement. Sonia Semone September 2005
