After watching the SNL performance last night, the location was obvious. The low D is played on the E string and it's played on two strings. The first tab up here was close.
This is the way colin played it (with the fuzz it's hard to tell):

Although playing it the way the first tab had it is fine (i'd love to credit it but the second tab overwrote it):
