Donated to Dave Matthews Band Guitar Tab Archives by Rory Lowe

This tune, you have to keep great rythem for it to sound good....also you have

to use alot of muting....For the chorus you have to pick out the rythem..its

easy to figure out!

Here's my early transcription of this excellent song...

There are a number of nuances -- my advice is to sit down and

play along with the disk.

Here's another version from Jack:

here's the verse from Stay (similar to Two Step), at least what I got:

e-x--x--x--x-x--x--x-x

B-x--x--x--x-x--x--x-x

G-10-10-10-x-10-8--7-8

D-x--x--x--x-x--x--x-x

A-x--x--x--x-x--x--x-x

E-10-10-10-x-10-6--6-6

just go back and forth with the rhythm on the 3rd string on the 7th and

8th fret.

Here's another version from Dan Barry:

Chorus - "Wasting time..."

e--------------------------------------

b--------------------------------------

g---10---------------------------------

d---8------10----8-----10--------------

a---6------x-----6-----x---------------

e----------8-----------8---------------

Here's the "breakdown" part from Ethan Bauley:

e------------------------------------------------

b------------------------------------------------

g----3-------------------------------------------

d------2-------1-2-3-----------------------------

a-1------1-2-3-----------------------------------

E------------------------------------------------

Yet another version from Matt Busch:

verse(these are the chord shapes, just listen for rhythm)

---6-6-6----6-4-3-4-3-4----r

---6-6-6----6-4-3-4-3-4----e

---7-7-7----7-5-5-5-5-5----p

---8-8-8----8-6-6-6-6-6----e

---x-x-x----x-x-x-x-x-x----a

---x-x-x----x-x-x-x-x-x----t

chorus

just wasting time......A little taste...stay stay stay

(chord shapes)

-6---10--8---3--------------6---10--8---1

-6---10--8---4--------------6---10--8---1

-7---10--8---5--------------7---10--8---2

-8---8---6---3--------------8---8---6---3

-6---x---x---x--------------6---x---x---1

Here's another version from Todd Woodard:

Hey..I've been over the tab's that you have for Stay, and I think my

version is more accurate than the others you have.. Try it out, it's

simpler (Dave's parts are usually fairly simple), and I think it sounds

more like the song:

| . | . | . | . | . | . | . | .

-------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------

---10---10-10---x-x-x-x-x10---8---7---8-----8-----7---8-----8s10---

----8----8--8---x-x-x-x-x-8---8---5---5-----5-----6---6-----6s-8---

-------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------

|

Each beat is marked off with a |, it's a two bar phrase, the bar line

denoted with a | on the bottom of the staff. If you listen carefully, you

will hear the slide I've tabbed out at the end of the 'riff'.

Here's another from Erik Hedman:

i figured out the tabs form the intro to stay. i took a look at

everyones tabs, but it seemed they were moving all over the neck of the

guitar. Dave basically stays in one place. I don't have the special format

to write it in, so i'm going to do my best.sorry this is how it is.

e--------------------------------------pull off

b-----6 6 6 x x x x 6 4 3---4 4 4 4 3---4/5

g-----3 3 3 x x x x 3 3 3---3 3 3 3-----5/6

d---------------------------5 5 5 5-----6/7

a------------------------------------------

E------------------------------------------

Here's another from Steven Leigh (steven2525@hotmail.com):

e-------------------------------|

B--6-66---6---3-4--4h3---4--4/6-|

G--7-77---7-8-x-x--x---7-5--5/7-|

D--8-88---8-8-5-5--5---6-6--6/8-|

A-------------------------------|

E-------------------------------|

I left out the muting because it's tough to notate and it gets

confusing anyway, just listen to the album to get the rhythm.

As I said I went through this note by note to make sure it was

right, and they are typical Dave Matthews chords, so it should

be correct.

Here's yet another from Jason Weathers:

his is just the intro to the song and I thought I'd share how I think the

song is played. It sure sounds a lot better than the other tabs, and I

think its pretty right on.

E------------------------------------------------------------------

B----6-----4-----4-----4-------------------------------------------

G----7-----5-----3-----5-------------------------------------------

D----8-------------------------------------------------------------

A------------------------------------------------------------------

E------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll finish up with the rest of the song soon including the jam in the middle

that sounds just like a lot of notes (ie. like the jam in Drive in at the

end of the song) so keep checking.

Yet another version from Keith McCoy:

e-------------------------|

b--6-66---6---------------|

g--7-77---78-7-88--7-88/10| Stay intro

d--8-88---86-5-55--6-66---|

a-------------------------|

E-------------------------|
